What's new at the SPES Media Center

Birthday Book Club

It's a new year and that means that it's time for the SPES Birthday Book Club to begin again. Because of the generous
donations from our students and parents, over the last 5 years we have been able to add 2,000 books to our
SPES Library collection. If you would like your child to be a part of the Birthday Book Club, please download
and fill out a form HERE. Mrs. Cooper will have forms at Fact and Fee day and will also send them home with
students during the first week of school. If you want to pay on REVTRAK, please still fill out a form.

Tinkering

Stiles Point Media Center has been a member of the CCSD Tinker Tub Cohort for the past 2 years.
During that time she has brought different hands-on activities into our school for students to try
and incorporate into learning activities. She has also received Donor's Choose grants for
6 Snap Circuit kits and 2 sets of Keva Planks that students have loved participating in
and learning from.

Keva Planks

Mrs. Cooper has been building Makerspace centers and has utilized these activities to spark creativity, persistence, and cooperation with 3rd - 5th grade students.

Author Visits

We have had two nationally published authors visit the library this year. Nonfiction author Kevin Kurtz and fiction author Dan Gemeinhart spoke to students about the importance of books and reading. This year we have Jennifer Nielson coming to visit in February. She is the amazing author of A Night Divided, The Mark of the Thief series, Resistance, and False Prince.

Gemeinhart Visit

Your SPES library offers more than 14,000 titles, up 19% over 2016. In case you didn't know, that is 17.2 items per student, which exceeds the Exemplary rating from the SC Standards for School Libraries.

SNAP Circuits

SPES Library received Donor's Choose funding to purchase Snap Circuits. These students are exploring electricity through this generous donation.
